The Clean Bengaluru Challenge was successfully launched on 1st Nov 2014 by 185 students of GEMS B SCHOOL hitting the streets of Vasanthnagar, clearing a Garbage Littered spot and speaking to the residents of Vasanthnagar.

The ‘Clean Bengaluru Challenge’ is a CSR initiative of GEMS B SCHOOL initiated by its students. Inspired by The Swachh Bharath Abhiyan campaign initiated by Shri. Narendra Modi, this is GEMS B SCHOOL’s students’ effort to do their bit towards making India Clean. GEMS B SCHOOL does not want this to be a touch and go kind of an activity and intends to make it Sustainable and scalable.

GEMS B SCHOOL has made this campaign sustainable by Cleaning up the Garbage littered spot, Painting the area with murals, Disposing the garbage in a recycling unit, Installing a Bin with separate compartments for dry and wet waste and educating the local residents about waste management. This was an effort to try and give an end to end a permanent solution to the persisting garbage problem in that particular spot in Vasanthnagar.

To make this campaign Scalable, inspired by the Ice Bucket Challenge, Students of GEMS B SCHOOL have nominated the students of 5 other highly proactive and socially responsible educational institutions in Bangalore to take up ‘The Clean Bengaluru Challenge’ such that more such clean up drives are initiated and this whole activity goes viral by the students of these 5 colleges nominating 5 other colleges each and so on.

This is a campaign initiated with the vision of cleaning up all the garbage littered spots in the city within a year’s time through substantial contributions from the Education Fraternity.
